MIN-NS Health Information Sharing

Language and names are funny things. The word “Exchange,” in “Health Information Exchange (HIE)” has become a noun, a description of the software and processes which move patient care documents from provider to provider. The term arose from the statewide initiatives fostered and funded by the ARRA Hitech Act.

MIN-NS Presents at Public Hospital Conference

The MIN-NS team delivered a session on June 24 at the Association of Washington Public Hospital Districts annual meeting about Health Information Exchanges and Community Health. The conference was attended by 400 community hospital leaders, both elected commissioners and senior managers.

Second Round of Rural Grant Funding

Island Hospital and Medical Information Network - North Sound (MIN-NS) have been awarded $285,000 in a second round of funding to continue connecting health providers and patients in rural areas to providers of services outside their community.

Skagit Health Information Exchange Wins Federal Grant

The grant supports MIN-NS’ efforts to enrich the existing Health Information Exchange with integrated telehealth; and certified, secure e-mail. MIN-NS will also have funds to integrate the electronic medical records of independent rural providers in Skagit, Island, San Juan and Whatcom counties. The grant focus is on providers of care for patients in rural areas.

Telehealth comes to a Washington town near you

Governor Inslee signed into law a measure that moves telehealth visits closer to parity with traditional, face to face patient care. We posted earlier in the year about the bills being considered. Bottom line is that all payers except CMS will be required to support professional fees for telehealth services delivered to patients in rural AND urban care settings.
